I’m Sophie Hansen. I live on a farm just out of Orange NSW with my farmer husband Tim and kids Alice and Tom. From here, I write about and take photographs of beautiful seasonal food and the people behind it. Many of these stories can be found on my blog, Local is Lovely.

I have a background in print journalism, starting with my Communications degree from the the University of Canberra and moving into over 20 years experience as a features writer. I’ve contributed to a number of online and digital publications and have been blogging at www.local-lovely.com since 2013.

I spent three years working with Slow Food Editore in Northern Italy in my twenties and now teach social media and content marketing to producers and small businesses via My Open Kitchen (podcast, e-course and workshops).

In 2016 I was awarded Australian Rural Woman of the Year in recognition of my commitment to rural communities and in April this year my second cookbook, A Basket by the Door was published by Murdoch Books.

I believe in being generous with the things we know and do.

And most of all, believe in simple, tasty and seasonal food made with love and shared generously.

I can help with social media training, content planning and creation, workshops, gatherings and all kinds of things. If you’d like to chat about this, please email me on sophie_hansen@me.com.
